OWINGS MILLS — Former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman is expected to be reunited with new Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh in a “prominent” position on his staff, according to Ian Rapoport, of the NFL Network.
Roman worked under Harbaugh as an associate head coach at Stanford in 2009. Harbaugh then hired Roman as his offensive coordinator when he was named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 until 2014.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh hired Roman as a senior offensive assistant and tight ends coach in 2017. Roman was promoted to assistant head coach and tight ends coach the following year.
In 2019, the Ravens named Roman offensive coordinator after Marty Mornhinweg decided to retire. Under Roman’s leadership, the Ravens set the NFL’s all-time team rushing yards record with 3,296 yards, and he was named NFL Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.
However, the offense sputtered in the following seasons, and Roman announced he was stepping down from the position in January 2023 to pursue other opportunities.
In his final year as offensive coordinator, the Ravens had the NFL’s No. 2 rushing offense (160.0 yards per game) and the league’s third-best yards-per-carry average (5.17). The Ravens amassed an NFL-high 12 games with at least 150 rushing yards. Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, adding a team-high 764 rushing yards in 12 starts.
